March 19 Update for Parents,
We continue to monitor state information on the state-mandated school closure. Many of you have asked a few clarifying questions so we have pulled the information provided to us from the state level to share with you. We will continue to post updates as we receive them.
Please remember that this is a very fluid situation and Ardmore City Schools does not have all the answers. Updated information will be posted to Facebook and on our website: www.ardmoreschools.org. Just click on the COVID-19 Info button.
If you would like to monitor the issues from the state level yourself, you can go to the Oklahoma State Department of Education website: www.sde.ok.gov/coronavirus. The Oklahoma State Health Department has also set up a website dedicated to providing everyone with crucial information about the virus and things we can all do to stay well. You can access that website at www.coronavirus.health.ok.gov
Schools and district offices will operate with a few essential personnel during this time in case you need to contact us. Those office hours will be Monday - Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Not open on Fridays.
If you have a question that is not covered somewhere, our office will be taking questions via email. We will review the questions once a day, research to see if there is an answer to your question and post those questions and answers on our website for everyone to see. I have two staff members who will be assigned to take your questions beginning Monday, March 23. Their email addresses are firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com. Thank you for understanding that we cannot answer hundreds of individual messages on Facebook or on Facebook Messenger.
On March 16, the State Board of Education ordered all accredited public schools to cease operations, effective March 17 until April 6, 2020. All instructional services, grading, and extracurricular activities, staff development, trainings, and conferences must cease. Guidance from the state currently states that schools are not expected to be required to make up the missed days. At this time, schools have been instructed not to provide online, home-based or distance learning for students. The State Board of Ed is meeting again on March 25 to review the situation and see how the state moves forward.
The district is working on a plan to provide a daily meal for students. Our child nutrition and transportation departments are working on a plan to allow parents to sign up for a meal to be delivered to designated bus stops. When that plan becomes finalized, we will let you know how to sign up if you would like to participate. We received two new web links for the latest information on the virus and we would like to share them with you. The Oklahoma State Department of Heath’s coronavirus website is: www.coronavirus.health.ok.gov.
